Uberti Organic Black Mulberries 150g
Black mulberry (Morus nigra) is a species of fruit tree in the Moraceae family, native to Western Asia (South Caucasus, Armenia, Iran) and naturalized in North America (Canada, United States), Europe and in China. It is widespread in Pakistan, India, North Iran and Afghanistan. It is mainly used in these countries for the manufacture of jams and sorbets. The black mulberry was introduced and cultivated throughout the Mediterranean basin from antiquity for its fruits. Nowadays, black mulberries are rather neglected. The black mulberry was unsuccessfully imported to Britain in the 17th century, in the hope that it would be useful in the cultivation of silkworms. White mulberry proved to be preferable. It is found nowadays as an ornament in gardens. Its benefits are similar to those of mulberry, with a different taste. The fruit of the white mulberry is sweetish before maturity, whereas at the same stage that of the black mulberry is very acidic. When fully ripe, that of the white mulberry is quite bland and very sweet, that of the black mulberry is sweet and slightly tart, even liquorice.
